Step by step guide


Step 2:  Adding Facebook social plugins to the website

In advance to adding any Facebook social plugin, you will be required to provide the Facebook App ID and App Secret Key. You can change the provided ID and Secret Key in future. This can be done navigating to “Edit App Settings” and making the relevant changes. The details on how to create an application ID can be found in Step 3.

Generate Sample Article. The button can be used for generating an article, which will include all Facebook buttons and widgets as a sample article. To view the created article, you should press the same button, which is renamed to Preview Sample Article.

After the test, you can add the preferred buttons.

  • From the navigation bar on the top select Components >Spider Facebook.
  • On the upper right hand of the screen click on the New button.

2.1 Adding a Like Button


2.1.1 Title. Specify a title for the plugin to be able to identify the plugin in back-end.
2.1.2 Publish. Choose whether to publish the plugin or not. 
2.1.3 Rendering. Choose how to render the plugin. IFRAME does not allow adding a Send Button. The URL option allows placing a link that redirects to a page with the plugin. Specify the link title in the Link text field, as well as the new page Target.
2.1.4 Add to <html> Tag. Add the code (ONLY ONCE) to the <html> tag of your template’s index.php file (templates/your_template/index.php).

2.1.5 Type of URL. By default, the plugin refers to the current page, but it is possible to link it to a different page by choosing the URL option and filling out the Url field.
2.1.6 Width. Specify the width (in pixels) of the plugin container
2.1.7 Height. Specify the height (in pixels) of the plugin container.
2.1.8 Button Label. Choose the button label.
2.1.9 Show Share Button. Choose whether to display Share button whenever the user clicks Like button or not.
2.1.10 Show Page Fans. Choose whether to show Page Fans or not.
2.1.11 Layout style. Select a layout style for the plugin.
2.1.12 Background color. Choose either to leave the plugin background to transparent or set a color for the plugin container.
2.1.13 Color Scheme. Select the color scheme of the plugin.
2.1.14 Font. Choose the text font of the plugin.
2.1.15 Language Preference.

  • Custom. Select the plugin language.
  • Current. Adjusts to the language of the website.

2.1.16 All Articles. Adds the plugin to all the articles on the website.
2.1.17 Show in category view. Choose whether to show articles in category view or not.
2.1.18 Default image for articles. When a user likes an article, the activity, along with the article description, appears on his/her Facebook wall. This option allows providing a default image that will accompany all the articles liked by the users.
2.1.20 Add. Choose the articles to which you want to add the plugin.
2.1.19 Articles. The following META tags allow you to customize the appearance of the chosen article on the user’s wall.
-           Title. The title of the article. 
-           Type. The source website will be categorized by the chosen type.
-           URL. For providing a canonical address for the page.
-           Image. The image accompanying the published article.
-           Site Name. For specifying a name for your website.
-           Description. For providing a description for the article.
-           Admin ID. You can fill out the Admin ID of your Facebook page to connect the post to the page.
2.1.21  Vertical Position. Choose whether to place the plugin at the top or at the bottom of the article.
2.1.22 On all non-article menu items. Adds the plugin to all the menu items on the website except the articles.
2.1.23 Default image for all Non-article Menu Items.  Provide a default image for all the components.
2.1.24 Non-article menu items. Choose menu items to which you want to add the plugin. The following META tags allow you to customize the appearance of the chosen items on the user’s wall.
2.1.25 Vertical Position. Choose whether to place the plugin at the top or at the bottom.
2.1.26 All K2 Items. Adds the plugin to all K2 items on the website.
2.1.27 Show in category view. Choose whether to show items in category view or not.
2.1.28 Default image for items. When a user likes an item, the activity, along with the item description, appears on his/her Facebook wall. This option allows providing a default image that will accompany all the items liked by the users.
2.1.29 Add. Choose the K2 items to which you want to add the plugin.

2.1.32 Style. Here you can customize certain style options. Simply change the values of the parameters that are listed in the box.
