Multiple category legends appear on calendar

Phil Schaming created the topic: Multiple category legends appear on calendar

I have two calendars one Public the other Private.
The Public calendar contains events designated with the "public" category and can be seen by anyone.

The Private calendar has two categories: meetings and parties.
The private calendar can only be seen by "registered" users.

All three category links appear below both the public and private calendars.

How can I have only the public category below the public calendar and only the meetings and parties categories below the private calendar?

Regards,
Phil

Dear Phil,

We much regret to say, that unfortunately Spider Calendar does not have the mentioned functionality by default. Is the feature very necessary for you? Please let us know.

Thank you.

For now I can live without it, but it makes sense to have the capability to restrict the categories to specific calendars.

Example: Sports club has three calendars: Mens, Womens and Childrens.
The Mens calendar only has the men's events. Similar arrangement for Women's and Childrens. Let's give the Children's calendar two categories: Boys and Girls

Currently the Men's calendar has only the the Men's events, BUT the colored links for Women and both Children's categories appear under the Men's calendar. Not really helpful.

Does that make sense?

Phil

Dear Phil,

You can try creating different calendars for each and create menu items for example. Just as a suggestion, it could be a dropdown menu containing Men, Women and Children, and Children item would have submenus: Boys and Girls.

Another way could be adding one general calendar plugin to an article and have the links to separate calendars under it.

Thank you.

Thanks. That's a partial fix, but another problem exists no matter what the configuration.
Note that this is a Demo site easily configured.

This figure is the Mens's Module as displayed on the Men's page.

This is the Men's Calendar as displayed via a plugin load on a separate page.

Note the colored Category boxes below each of the displays. Both the Men's Module and the Men's calendar display the Women's and Children's categories although they have no meaning on the Men's area of the site. Also, the Uncategorized catagory, of which there are really no events displays.

Phil

Dear Phil,

Are those calendars separate calendars? Categories are being selected within events, so if an event belongs to a calendar with selected category, it shouldn't display within another calendar, that doesn't have an event belonging to the mentioned category. I hope this makes sense.

If you are sure everything is done correctly, please let us take a look at the problem. We'll try to provide a solution as soon as possible.

Thank you.

Exactly. Three separate calendars each with its own events. The events for Men only appear on the Men's calendar.

The category links under the calendar are not helpful.
Take note that clicking on the Women's or Children's links while looking at the Mens calendar will cause the Men's events to disappear from the Men's calendar.

Only the Men's events are on the calendar. Why would anyone want the Men's events to disappear from the Men's calendar?

BTW clicking on the Men's category link has no effect on the Men's events on the Men's calendar. I believe that to be the proper operation.

Keep in mind that this is a Spider Calendar issue; Not a Joomla template issue.
Hopefully you'll be able to get this fixed in the next release.

The issue is not general, because we've tested at different sites, it does work properly. So I am guessing there could be a conflict on your website, e.g. with another extension, the code of Spider Calendar could have gotten broken because of its content. Or it could be due to your website configurations. That is why the problem is unique and we need to take a look in order to come up with a solution.

Also please check in browser developer tools for Javascript errors on frontend and let us know if there are any.
Thank you.

I've traced through the code to see what was actually causing the problem.
Below the calendars and the module display is what is referred to in the code as the category_legend. The code loops through each of the categories and displays each categories legend.

Each legend has a trigger that toggles the other categories' events on the calendar.

These category legends can be turned off in the back end on the individual Category title form. Using the Published: No radio selection stops the display of the legends. Each category's radio button must be set to No to stop all of the legend buttons.

There is no tool tip on the Published title to indicate what you are actually publishing. Having one would have given a clue as to what was going to happen.

This solves my problem. However, it would be an improvement to the component and module to have a finer tuning of the category legend display.

Phil
