Email Field - being forced to ‘required’

I wonder if you can advise please...
I have set up an Email field (Text Input > field Type > Email), which is NOT set to ‘required’. However, even though it is not a required field, if the person leaves that field blank, a message comes up for that field saying “this is not a valid email address” - thus forcing them to fill it out.
Ideally I wanted this field to be a “conditional” field (ie It only shows if the person chooses a certain option in another field), but if I do that, then the form will not send at all - presumably because of the above issue of the form being 'required' by the system, even though the 'required' box is not ticked in the field options.
A work-round for now is for us to use a plain text field, instead of an 'Email' field, but if there is any solution to the above I would be grateful.

Mandy, that is really a weird issue and the issue should be with your settings.
But I cannot guess what can be the issue, so please write us at [email protected] and provide full admin access to you website.

Thank you so much! I just had a reply, and this issue is solved!
Just for the benefit of anyone else reading this, the problem was that I had put some text in the "Value if empty" box on that email field. Removing that text enables the form to be sent correctly.
