I would like to make my contact page (the page itself) into two columns. The left side would contain my contact form. The right side would have an image. Any ideas how to do this?

You can use Custom HTML field to insert the image you need to have on your form. Make sure to switch to Text mode and add the link to your image in <img> tag as follows:
